10:47 pm - Writer's Block: Words that you love and hate
What are your favorite and least favorite words? Any reasons why?
"Really?" This is the most frequent word that I say to people. Usually people will smile and respond:"I am kidding." The second most frequent phrase I will say is "Are you serious?" Then if they haven't say it before, they will say it now: "I'm kidding". ;b

The least favorite words?
I don't say dirty words. If that doesn't count, I don't like people to say "We'll see."

4:01 pm - Cardinals
These are the cardinals from Diamond Head Crater, Oahu island, Hawaii. :)
Cardinal Designs
In praise of Cardinalis cardinalis, the Northern Cardinal ...

Whistles and a flurry of crimson wings
signals he watches when she looks for him;
skyward, eyes where he sways on cedar, sings,
flinging bursts of flattering hymns at whim.

How odd their courtship leads to this courtyard
the hen shares with the She who crafts alone
Romance poems; his own beguile the bard,
vermilion audacity proudly shown.

Purty, purty, purty, his tenor trill
thrills Her vanity. Silly, She knows none
but the feathered one fulfills – (Her, who will?)
his mate for life – (Her home by extension).

The Creator makes Books good as Covers:
Designs good-looking heroes, best lovers?

1:24 am - Chinese New Year~~
Happy New Year!

I haven't visited here for so long time. Amazingly, Livejournal changed so much! Much easier to edit, and many new functions, e.g. virtual gifts!
Today, I opened my google earth. Hoho, they add some high-res images for google campus. You can even count how many people are walking outside.

Everything is new. I think me too.

Physically:
    I trimmed my hair. Use a new hair style these days. :) The two pigtails look nice. :)

    I cut my left hand yesterday when I was helping cooking, and my right hand got bruised.

Mentally:
    I am trying to adjust myself to a new life stage. Growth should be a gradual process. I don't want to rush in decisions, but I should also remind myself not to hesitate too much.

I don't like to say goodbye to the past, but I have to. If something is worthy to be part of the good memory, it should be a blessing but not a burden for us, isn't it?

    3 x 37 = 111
    6 x 37 = 222
    9 x 37 = 333
    12 x 37 = 444
    15 x 37 = 555

    21 x 37 = 777
    24 x 37 = 888
    27 x 37 = 999

    Nice one:

    111,111,111 x 111,111,111 =12,345,678,987,654,321

    Trapeze:

    1 x 9 + 2 = 11
    12 x 9 + 3 = 111
    123 x 9 + 4 = 1111
    1234 x 9 + 5 = 11111
    12345 x 9 + 6 = 111111
    123456 x 9 + 7 = 1111111
    1234567 x 9 + 8 = 11111111
    12345678 x 9 + 9 = 111111111

    another Trapeze:

    1 x 8 + 1 = 9
    12 x 8 + 2 = 98
    123 x 8 + 3 = 987
    1234 x 8 + 4 = 9876
    12345 x 8 + 5 = 98765
    123456 x 8 + 6 = 987654
    1234567 x 8 + 7 = 9876543
    12345678 x 8 + 8 = 98765432
    123456789 x 8 + 9 = 987654321

    and another one:

    0 x 9 + 8 = 8
    9 x 9 + 7 = 88
    98 x 9 + 6 = 888
    987 x 9 + 5 = 8888
    9876 x 9 + 4 = 88888
    98765 x 9 + 3 = 888888
    987654 x 9 + 2 = 8888888
    9876543 x 9 + 1 = 88888888
    98765432 x 9 + 0 = 888888888
    987654321 x 9 - 1 = 8888888888
    9876543210 x 9 - 2 = 88888888888

    10:11 pm - Sudoku
    I guess I am crazy. I have to finish my thesis in 1.5 months, and have a journal paper to write, bunch of experiments need to be done, and a heavy load of coding for my research. But today, I saw a webpage about sudoku and finished the contest. Sure, it was too simple to kill the time. So, I write a piece of code to solve the problem with machine.
    So, here is the results of this month's sudoku contest:

    -----------------------------------
    Sudoku[0] = | 4 3 6 | 7 2 8 | 5 1 9
    Sudoku[1] = | 9 2 5 | 3 1 4 | 6 7 8
    Sudoku[2] = | 1 7 8 | 5 9 6 | 2 3 4
    -----------------------------------
    Sudoku[3] = | 8 6 9 | 1 5 7 | 3 4 2
    Sudoku[4] = | 3 5 2 | 6 4 9 | 1 8 7
    Sudoku[5] = | 7 4 1 | 2 8 3 | 9 5 6
    -----------------------------------
    Sudoku[6] = | 6 1 4 | 8 3 2 | 7 9 5
    Sudoku[7] = | 5 8 7 | 9 6 1 | 4 2 3
    Sudoku[8] = | 2 9 3 | 4 7 5 | 8 6 1

    I wrote it in C. drop me a msg if you want the code. :D

    I must hate puzzles, that's why every time I see a puzzle, I have the impulse to solve it.

    Have a nice weekend!

    1:27 am - Acronyms
    We use Acronyms to let the people know we are in the circle.
    Now let's test which circle you are in.

    What's CVS? a Version Control System? Cyclic Vomitting Syndrome? or computer vision syndrome (Well, guess that's what I have... ;b )

    What's SVD? You think it should be "singular value decomposition"? It can also be one of the following:
      Snaiperskaya Vintovka Dragunova—a sniper rifle
      Society of the Divine Word (Latin: Societas Verbi Divini)
      Spontaneous Vaginal Delivery
      Svenska Dagbladet (SvD)
      Swine Vesicular Disease

    And what is TMD? Hey you, don't laugh.... I am talking about something scientific and serious: TemporoManDibular(joint disorder.....)

    7:43 pm - Final Day of Internship at Bosch
    I add some new features to my robot simulator. The most important one of them is odometer noise. I'm glad I did it today, so that my coworker can test their global restigration algorithm with the synthetic data that this feature provides. :)
    I invited Kyle and 2 other students for lunch today. We went to "Loon Wah" again, because Kyle said he'd never tried dim sum before. Kyle came from Indiana, a place where you cannot find massive Chinese people as in California.
    Last night, I also went to Loon Wah. And got a fortune cookie slip saying that I would receive a letter from .... Oops, nope. The first letter that I recieved today was a spam. Well okay, this tells us not to put any expectation in anything.
    And today's fortune slip was very advisable: Prepare for unexpected things. But more important, I wish I know what need to be prepared for. I wish I can get ready for everything, including loss, death, solitude, departure, betrayal, distrust and cheating.

    kaka. That's it.

    4:42 pm - Canon... wait for me....
    Before I came for the internship, I made a perfect plan for myself: buy a new SLR DC. The estimation is around $1,500 to $2,000 including a simple-but-not-crappy lens set.

    Well, it's almost the end of the summer, or may I say it's the end of summer already, and I have to postpone my plan again, due to my over-expense in the past 3 months. That follows a Chinese old-saying: "Hao3 Shi4 Duo1 Mo2", which means: Good things always come late. ;b

    Another important purchase plan of this year is a new laptop. Still pondering if I should get a light and handy "slide-player + mail&document processor", or a heavy but powerful "work-station + play-station". ;b Or both? hehe hehe, no no no.... no more daydreaming. I am really short at hand right now.

    Oh, I forgot to mention, today I got my left front CV-boot and axle changed for $436. It's really a happy thing to spend money for the one you like, for example: My Honda Civic. :D

    6:19 pm - :) New Watch
    I told Mom about my missing citizen. Surprising me, she didn't feel so bad because that's her gift. And she even said to me, maybe it's the time to get yourself a new watch.
    Yep. :) I decided to get a new one, same brand, same model. And the earlier I get it, the sooner I will get used to it. :D
    Now I am looking forward to my new watch, I've already picked the model. It will be different to my old one, but should be pretty and more advanced. hehe.
    Now I am also hoping that I would not be able to find my old one, although I will keep on looking for it. Because if it comes back to me after I get my new watch, I will feel sorry for it since I cannot wear it anymore, -- I will be occupied...

    Don't know why, it made me want to sing an old song that I knew when I was a child:
    Two little black birds sitting on the hill,
    One name is Jack and the other name is Joan,
    Fly away Jack, Fly away Joan,
    Come back Jack, Come back Joan.....

    Two of my little watches lying on the floor
    One name is Old and the other name is New
    Walk away Old, Walk away Blue
    Come here Black, Come here New.....

    BTW, My new watch will have a black dial and a silver/gold tone wrist band... (although I prefer pure color)

    2:58 pm - Story of my watches
    I couldn't find my watch. When I tried to remember when was the last time that I saw it, I suddenly noticed that I had ignored its existance or non-existance for a long long time. Now I want my watch back so badly, and this proves: Some people cherish things only after they lost them.

    That's a Citizen Eco-drive with steel wrist band and a blue face, a gift from my Mom 4 years ago. I picked up the gift by myself after her predecessor, --an "Emu" with green and red bands on the face (I guessed that was a christmas gift from somewhere)--, refused to work after I had someone put new batteries in it. I had it on my wrist for about 7 years.

    My first watch was a gift from my uncle when I was grade 2. It was a Casio. The first night I got it, I tried to explore its not quite a few functions in my bed. One of functions was turn on/off a dim light at the face with a little button. I was quite cautious that night, because my Dad said it would consume battery so fast.

    I got my second watch when I was in Junior high. That was a white face, golden rim watch with a tiny gold rooster on the face. Third one and fourth one were not my favorites, and I couldn't remember how they looked and where they've gone. Then the fifth, - a fake Omega, - from one of my best friends when I was in high school. sixth and seventh both were girly and I gave them to a girl that I liked. Then came the "Emu" and my Citizen.

    Hmm, one student told me that he saw my watch last week somewhere. This information gave me so much hope and passion to look for my watch again, also kept me away from my work....;b. But I fell into a deeper abyss of disappointment.
    I hate to threw away old stuff. Because, it takes me a long time to get used to a new item, (never for computers and music...;b ), especially watches. But maybe I should accept the fact that it's the time to say goodbye to my not-too-old Citizen watch.

    To all the watches that I had: I miss you all.

    11:06 am
    I have stomachache again. Do you know where the stomachache is? It is a large digestive bag-shaped organ below your lungs and above your abdomen. Not my belly, not my duodenum, not something else. When I said stomachache, it meant I felt painful right at my stomach. Sometimes, the stomachache will be considered as a chest ache, like something attacks your lungs or heart. That is because they are very close to each other and we don't have an accurate sense of pain which can tell us where is the source. Ha, when I was in high school, I had several best friends, and every time when we came up with same ideas, we would laugh together and say that's because our heads were close to each other's...
    Well, now, Is my stomachache a real stomachache or a heart ache? Hmm, I am not sure. My stomachache is very moody. Sadness, loneliness, worries, ..., many things can cause a pain on my stomach. (Is it because it stays too close to my heart? :O ) ;b Sure, some other things as well: Cold air, too much spicy/cold food, a dinner at late night ....
    :D ...So please, my dear stomach, stop the ache! Don't you see I have a good mood right now? Don't you see i want a good mood right now? STOP! plz....
